Harry Potter.

Anybody here read any of the Harry Potter books?

I know the 6th one just came out, but, I only just started reading them the day the 6th one came out. Now, 8 days later, I've just finished the 3rd book in the series, and I've gotta say, I'm quite impressed. The books are only getting better, and from what I've heard from my friends, the same thing is true for the rest of the books in the series.

If you've ever got some spare time, and access to the books, might as well give em a read. The first 3 are rather quick reads, and very good.

i've never really had any interest in reading the harry potter books. i saw almost half of one of the movies (from somewhere in the middle to the ending) and the story seemed alright in the film, but it didn't really make me think that i should start reading the books either. so i don't figure that i'll ever read the harry potter books, but i guess there's an off-chance that i'll somehow get interested enough to read them. i think my mum and my sister have all the books so far, so i'm not being cheap either :P (though i would rather reserve my book buying cash for books that i expect to be better than hp, heh)

Seeing as how I don't read books in general but one per 5 years or so, nah, never thought about it, probably never will. Although I have heard a lot of good things about them from people who you'd otherwise never suspect of reading something so childish.

i've read every HP book, and all but the newest one at least twice. they're all really quite good, and yeah, they all kept getting better but this one, left something to be desired. i dunno, i finished it and i kinda stared at the last page, and was like... nah, there's gotta be more, you can't end on that!!! and personally, i hate books that do that. it was good, yes, but as good as the others? i really don't think so. i'll decide if it was a good ending for this book when the next one comes out in like 8 years (i actually have no idea when it's coming out, but i'd imagine it'd be a pretty long time, especially since JK rowling is taking longer and longer with each book)

and just a tip... if you do end out wanting to buy them, go to sam's club, or costco, or whatever warehouse store you can, they're like 1/2 the price that they are at major book retailers.

Harry Potter books are fantastic.

I live in the bible belt and the stories are nearly illegal down here. You get branded for saying anything positive about them cuz magic is of the devil.

Amazon.com's used and new usually has good prices for the hardcovers (e.g. in relation to the normal hardcover boost in price) as well (and shipping, if not expediated, is usually only $3-4, given the location of the person you're buying it from) as I'm sure many online stores also provide. Paperbacks can also carry brilliantly cheap prices on Amazon, too:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/off...?condition=all

(also, from my experience, "like new" really is just like new. Lowest price on used Amazon for the first book: $0.50)

I enjoy Harry Potter a lot, but I'm behind in the series. My dad bought the 6th book for me while he was out of town for work, but I can't read it until I catch up (4th and 5th book), and that probably won't happen until next summer/spring break, as Harry Potter isn't on my priority reading list.

There was a trailer for th 4th movie before willy wonka today and it looked amazing! The book was good, but the movie looks even better. I think its the only one I can say it about, too. The first three movies were good but the books were just better. I cant wait until november.

I already know what happens in the 6th book. I accidentally read it on a forum somewhere. I think that the 6th one ends on such a bad note, only to make the 7th and final book that much better.

I enjoyed the movies too. Just after I finished the 3rd book, I went downstairs and watched the 3rd movie that I had previously recorded on our Tivo. It was good.

And though I've got like 150 pages left of the 4th book, (which I'll probably finish today), I really can't wait for the 4th movie.

Edit: And now is probably a really good time to start reading them. Because once you finish one of the books, you'll be quite glad that you can carry onto the next one, without having to wait 2 years. Though this isn't the case for the 6th book.

"it's frightening to think that you may actually be serious."

A christian radio station here said something like "how can this possily be veiwed as anything but satanic?" and I'm in the northeast.

But I've never read the books. I don't read fiction often.
