Amazon.com's used and new usually has good prices for the hardcovers (e.g. in relation to the normal hardcover boost in price) as well (and shipping, if not expediated, is usually only $3-4, given the location of the person you're buying it from) as I'm sure many online stores also provide. Paperbacks can also carry brilliantly cheap prices on Amazon, too:

(also, from my experience, "like new" really is just like new. Lowest price on used Amazon for the first book: $0.50)

I enjoy Harry Potter a lot, but I'm behind in the series. My dad bought the 6th book for me while he was out of town for work, but I can't read it until I catch up (4th and 5th book), and that probably won't happen until next summer/spring break, as Harry Potter isn't on my priority reading list.
