I'm not dumb, I know it doesn't explicitly work that way. But how many chicks would say yes to a proposal if there were no ring, and how many dudes would have the balls to do so?
Or maybe it's not even that deep, it's just something that people do, and I don't see any reason for it. It's not any different than flashing your tail feathers or sparring with another buck. ::shrugs::
