U.S. Decides to Hog the Net

http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0...tml?tw=rss.TOP

"A decision by the United States to indefinitely retain oversight of the main computers that control internet traffic drew concerns Friday from foreign officials, many of whom want an international body in charge instead."

I would have to agree with what others are saying, rather than having one country keeping check on all the traffic, have more of a UN of the Net come together.

I'd prefer a private company control it, rather than the US or a coilition of countries. Decisions are impossible when a collection of companies try to get something done ... which is evident enough in the UN.

Yeah, I see what you mean...I honestly don't really care, just the only thing that would concern me is that if they were to continue their push to govern it more and more...as they do with everything else they can get their grubby hands on. In the end though there's not too much you can do.

Don't a few different companies oversee different aspects of the internet, and aside from them it's a mostly freestanding thing? Ie ICANN oversees domain names... umm, i don't know what else, but alot of things seem to be done by convention, and if something is adopted on a widespread enough level it 'becomes' the internet - new protocols, new languages. I guess I should read the article.

What this is mainly talking about, is DNS routing.
