Ex-FEMA Chief Explodes in Congress

INTO FLAMES.

Actually, he responded in reaction to the fact that he was universally blamed for the response to Hurricane Katrina.

As head of FEMA, it was obvious that he was unqualified for the position and did a terrible job in reacting to a disaster, but shuffling the blame all on to him is some definite scapegoating. There were a lot of other problems and governmental failures that contributed to the amount of death in New Orleans.

I guess the question is, do you think he was responsible for what happened, or should we have expected this to happen when an Arabian Horse Judging Commissioner is put in charge of the Federal Emergency Management Agency?

side note, the daily show's coverage of this hearing tonight was pretty hilarious.

He's not at fault anymore than anybody else is. THough, I think that he was wholely unprepared for it ... whether it was the Arabian Horse Judger or somebody who has experience in disaster relief, the results would have been the same.

Though, most news reports of the "Rapings" "slaughter" "hundreds of thousands dying..." were all media embeleshments. The problem in this was America's Constitutional federalism... The only way to have prevented the aftermath of Katrina was for the federal government to take over and declare it a military-run environment. Nobody in their right mind would grant that if there is still a chance that the hurricane would miss ... by the time htey knew it would hit and hit hard, it was far too late.
