That F.A.G. is at it again...

In a never ending battle to mask greed with talent, actors of all media are hoping to strike against several video game manufacturers. This stems from the lack of profit shares provided by the industry, which is "unfair". Industry leaders have stated: "In film or television, the actor's performance makes the experience. In video games, it does not." The industry admitedly doesn't need film actors, but they'll strike anyway in a daring attempt to bring balance to the force. |

some of the best games i've played have had either no-name voice talent or none at all. this is a little ridiculous.

seriously though, i find it almost distracting when i hear celebrity voices in games. it's obviously just a paycheck for many of them, and i would rather hear someone who maybe isn't known at all but loves the game and is dedicated to giving a great performance. case in point: i think Resident Evil 4 had a mediocre script that was handled masterfully by an unknown cast. The voice of Leon was perfect, and Ada, the prez's daughter (though suitably annoying) and other supporting characters gave a lot of life to the game. but do i need haley joel osment in the game? fuck no.

Maybe if movie stars worked towards the sales of their games that they're in, then they could get some of the profits. You see stars go on Late Night Talk shows and promote their movies, commercials, and television shows/appearances ... but do you ever hear them even mention the video games that some of them are in?
No. It's just a flat paycheck, and they're done with it. Even games who feature prominant stars playing the lead roles, those usually aren't your favorite characters... GTA:VC and SA being the most noteable; but I think that those voice actors get paid a pretty good salary, so they wouldn't complain. |
