Malpractice!

Okay, so in April of 2004 I was performing a play. In it, one of the actors had to "push" me down, and I had to "fall." We did it right a thousand times in rehearsal, but when we actually performed for our audience, I discreetly hurt my wrist. I wrapped it in an ace bandage for a few days and when it didn't improve, I finally went to the doctor. He recommended I go to the local hospital for x-rays, but that more than likely, it was just a serious sprain. The hospital verified that, yep, I sprained the fuck out of it, and they sent me on my way.

A year and a half of working and writing and walking the dog and driving and chopping vegetables and lifting things with my right hand has gone by and my wrist hurts like a bitch every single day. So the other day I finally broke down and went to my mom's physical therapist, thinking he could give me some sort of goofy exercise or electroshock treatment to tighten the stretched tendons. When he looked at my new x-rays he gasped in dismay and dug in my file to retrieve the old x-rays the hospital had taken over a year earlier. They were plain black plastic sheets; they had been underexposed and you couldn't see my bones! In all reality, I had no sprain...I had a lazy doctor who didn't feel like retaking the x-ray. I have a broken wrist. Apparently when I fell wrong I gave myself a scaphoid fracture, splitting a bone in my wrist completely in half. Over the next year and a half, with daily use, I managed to completely displace the pieces. The area became arthritic and some parts of the bone died.

This month I have to have extensive surgery consisting of a bone graft, a small screw, and a 12 week casting. I won't have any use of my right hand.

AND GOD DAMMIT I'M GOING INTO THE SCHOOL OF CREATIVE WRITING THIS MONTH AND I'M NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO FUCKING WRITE!!!
