I think it's great. It's nice for me to see the gesture; it's like, "I really love you but we're too young to get married. Here's a token representing my good intentions. Let's continue to be in love and when we get our shit together later, we can mess with the legally binding bullshit that it takes to convince the world that we want to be together."
My mom has been wearing an engagement ring for over a year now; there is still no definite date for the wedding, but she and her fiance are SO in love. That's what matters...So what's the difference between that and a promise ring?
