Lot of cable companies have been doing speed upgrades..
Cox is pushing hard to upgrade their speeds in their systems with Verizon's FIOS hitting the market in certain areas (it's operational in a few parts of this region). I finally got my upgrade over night, it's 15Mbps down and 2Mbps up...very sweet indeed...
Here's a test off this one site running a Gigabit network, very good speedtest page. Just downloaded something off Fileplanet, peaked at 1.40MB/s, yeah, I'm diggin' this. My upload should peak at around 250KB/s now.
Not bad for a service that would run a non-discounted customer/employee $54.95/mo. |
christ, i was happy when verizon finally upgraded us to 3.0mbps in march...

Well, that's pretty standard still really...before the upgrade (and I've been on the premier tier for a year now mind you), I was getting 5.0 down and 768 up. Heh, I could pretty much dump hosting and run TTT off my home server if I wanted now.

My up at school used to be incredible, close to 450 kb/sec average for most of my uploads ... and then the network crashed one weekend and ever since then, it's been like ... literally 9kb/sec up. Blows my nuts.

too lazy to check mine... fios is available here. bastards tore up everything for a month to put it in. maybe we'll switch sometime

Yeah, I remember you mentioning that sharkz...I was seriously considering FIOS until they upgraded the cable speeds here, I'm fine now. Although in one locale verizon has offered the 30/5 Mbps line for 55.95 or whatever it was, if they were to standardize it....THEN...it'd be a possibility.
