Online portfolio finally finished.

I finally got around to making myself a decent online portfolio. This summer I'm hopefully going to be living and working in Boston, so I figured I needed a full working online portfolio to showcase all my stuff.

I lied a bit. The 'contact' and 'about me' pages aren't completely done yet, but the portfolio is all done.

Check it out.

go get a job!

Is this for employers to look at? Not sure I'd have the "ISuk" player on there if so...or the shout box with your friends saying hey. If it's just for you then I can see that being OK...but not if you're looking for a job.

I like the site though, very nice.

Jesse 02-20-2007 10:06 AM

The Shoutbox is being removed right now. I was only gonna have it up until it was finished. And I was wondering whether or not to leave the iSuk on there. Maybe I'll get rid of it.

GT2000 02-20-2007 10:15 AM

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Cid, you already said you're removing the shoutbox.. very smart move, as well as removing the iSuk. Not all potential employers have senses of humor unfortunately..

Jesse 02-20-2007 03:19 PM

Removed the iSuck and Shoutbox.

Site is completely done.

GT2000 02-20-2007 04:19 PM

Not completely done...

And feel free to leave me a message to the right in my shoutbox.
Please keep it friendly, though. Any foul entries will be removed.

I would suggest changing the about page from this:
Name: Jesse Potter.
Age: 21.
Location: Waterville/Bangor Maine. Boston for the summer of 2007.

to this:
Name: Jesse Potter.

Age: 21.

Location: Waterville/Bangor Maine. Boston for the summer of 2007.

just makes it easier to read when there are spaces between all that stuff.

it could use more explosions and mutants and cyborgs, but other than that, looks ok.

I would also change "I haven't received lower than an 'A' in any of my major courses. " to "I received a 4.0 GPA in my major."

that's actually a pretty nice site. i didn't think it would be total shit or anything, but you surpassed my expectations :p

I was going to space them out, but I forgot. Doing that now.

for a web designer, i expected more from your portfolio site. that was pretty bland. and the window title... ONLINE portfolio you say? (dot) com? what is this the internet or something? sorry i dont have a suggestion, but come on...

other skill is... computers? ok then.

and i just went over your details and cleaned things up a bit. take it or leave it.

I've been doing graphic and web design since 1997. It all started when I begged my parents to buy me a 600 page HTML book, a book which I still have. I was completely amazed by HTML and all the things I could do with it.

In 1999, I started to get more serious about web design. I began playing around with Adobe Photoshop 7 in my free time. Although I was intimidated by its complexity, I stuck with it. I did online tutorials every day to broaden my skill-set. When I had a firm grasp on Photoshop, I decided to work with some other applications.

In 2002, I began working with Macromedia Fireworks and Flash [and the other programs you listed, perhaps?]. By the time I graduated high school and moved onto college at The New England School of Communications, I already had a great understanding of web and graphic design. I was a bit skeptical about taking web design classes when I first entered college. I knew I was already at an advanced skill level coming into the school, and I wasn't sure if I'd find the classes challenging. Needless to say, the classes were great.
Presently, I have only 2 web design classes left, and those are web development 1 and 2.

My Goals: When I graduate college, I hope to find work in web and graphic design, either as a freelance artist or as part of a company. Web design is an art, and I enjoy expressing myself through it very much. A career in web design as will give me the chance to create new art all the time. In addition to web design, I'd like to try designing billboards. What better way to show off my art to the world than to have it printed on a 14'x48' billboard in a busy city?

Aye. And you might wanna get familiar with a couple Linux distros, Jess. You barely find IT / intarwebz work that's solely based on a windows platform. Get comfortable with it. (My apologies if you already are, I havent really been keeping track of you guys. ;))

If you're lucky, you could swing a 4 year degree and land a cushy job switching out dead RAID arrays, maintaining their intranet and keeping an eye on a corporate firewall for some huge company who pays you for doing barely anything. ;)
