i broke my freakin hip.

i was fencing, fell into a split (which normally i have no problem with) but my leg turned funny, i felt a crack, and excruciating pain. next thing i know i'm in an ambulance, and the next thing after that i'm being told that i broke (sorry, "fractured" my hip, and i won't be fencing for 6-8 weeks.

fanfuckingtastic.

I don't know what this has to do with the title of the thread, but that sucks. If I were to end up in a split I'm sure the injurys would be far more devastating.

better than my partial fracture of my ankle. fucking 10 weeks for that. but yeah, i feel your pain there, it's never fun getting around in crutches. at college its even worse because of how far classes are from each other.

it has to do with the title because come on, what seventeen year old breaks their hip?

it's only 6-8 wks because it's not a displaced fracture (meaning the pieces stayed in place) and my legs are rediculously strong from fencing, so that's gonna help me out alot.

Where did it break, the crests, the illium itself, or the synthesis?

also, where will you strip, Chicken Shack, or the place by the airport?

um, i don't know yet, i've only gone to the emergeny room. i have yet to talk to an orthopedic doctor about why it happened and what i need to do for it.

as for where i'm gonna be stripping... if i do it probably somewhere in philly.

Don't trust them on the 6-8 weeks though. They told me 6 weeks of casting with my wrist. I am on week 12. Stupid Bitches.

Look at it this way, at least it didn't happen while you were fencing off at university on scholarship, right? You're going to have to be CAREFUL with that and make sure you let it heal completely.

this is probably good advice. fracturing yer hip must have hurt.. could this be the type of injury that ends your (competitive?) fencing career? like.. i dunno, bad leg injuries for a skier, or something.

um. i have to wait for MRI results. the x-rays didn't show enough. right now it looks like i fractured right under where my gluteus medius attaches to my hipbone, right on the outside of the femoral neck. if the fracture only goes to the end of the femur i'll be on my feet pretty quick, basically as soon as i can handle the pain. that's what the x-ray showed. the x-ray also showed that the break might continue through the femoral neck. if it does, i'm off my feet for a long ass time because if it does, and it displaces, my fencing career is over. that's what the MRI will tell. he's pretty sure that's what it is, and that's depressing.

Wow that really sucks. Honesty, heres hoping everythings cool.

Not really...shit, when they wanted to send me to the nerve surgeon (can't remember what the hell they called it now..), they said they did appts at all hours..my doctor said the person was such an in-demand surgeon, they had to schedule appts around the clock, lmao..

yeah, they were gonna do it at like, a normal time, until my doctor called and was like "what the hell! she's got a freaking broken hip, and i need to know if i need to cast it, you will take her on monday, which is already longer than you should've made her wait or she'll sue you all for negligence!" now, that was a completely empty threat, but it got the job done, and i got my appointment

This is something I have missed much over the past 12 weeks. Not that, you know, I didn't bathe...but..this is much easier/quicker/more thorough? I am in a lot of pain though, my little wimpy wrist misses staying still.

yeah, i am NOT looking forward to the PT, but it's a way off...

the mri looked really bad when the technician showed it to me, the break branches in like four or five places. clear as day. my doctor still has to look at it, but he's talking like he wants to cast it. that'd be a body cast. from my waist all the way down my left leg, and halfway down my right leg EWWWWWWW.
