This will be a day that everyone has been looking forward to for a long time (almost everyone). Not a whole lot more to say on the subject, when I heard it on the news first thing this morning, it put a smile on my face to say the least.

I wish they'd televise it, I know I'd be glued to the boob-tube with some popcorn!

:hang:

Right here Saddam.. :fU:

Dude, he might have gotten the death sentence, but do you really think he'll ever actually be executed?

This would be the only hang-up (pun not really intended)..

The death sentences automatically go to a nine-judge appeals panel which has unlimited time to review the case. If the verdicts and sentences are upheld, the executions must be carried out within 30 days.

But I don't see this dragging on for more than..1-2 years, we'll see.

I don't see it as a happy decision at all, and not because I think Saddam is a good person or that he doesn't deserve it. This does nothing for international law or national iraqi unity, and those are both crucial battlegrounds.

*sorry, the following came from a small burst of anger when i relooked at your post with 'right here Saddam' and flipping him off*

Saddam's atrocities were fairly unexceptional compared to many of the 20th century's tyrants, many of whom were supported and given carte blanche on their own people's lives. Saddam committed his worst crimes while he was a US ally and so nobody gave it a second thought. But now that he's been chosen as American public enemy #2 everyone gets such satisfaction that he's getting what he deserves. All I can really say is "you fucking sheep".

Thank you Raub. I like you too.
And I like Donnie, but we all at times participate in conventional wisdom which can be highly deceptive and dangerous, and this time I felt moved to criticize.

I'm sitting at work so I don't have the time for a lengthy reply, but, I think you have the wrong idea about me, Neil.

i dont feel one way or the other about it. i think a lot of what saddam has done has been sensationalized by the media (not that he hasn't done some horrible things), but i really don't know what to believe in this instance.

he doesn't appear as a madman, now he's just an old man in prison. killing him just seems like bloodlust, but im not gonna picket for him to avoid it either.
