so johnny, i'm downloading the gentoo live ISO right now. i think i'm gonna install it this weekend.

let me know if the live cd actually works for you. i had problems--it would never finish loading up. (to use the text-based installer do "gentoo nox" instead of just "gentoo")

i had trouble with the Sabayon Live DVD, and it's based on Gentoo... so crap.
