the album isn't set to be released until april 4th, but you can listen to it on flaminglips.com. click on the link to the album in the music section.

i'm only on the second track right now. it sounds like they're having fun with the music. and they're playing guitars more again! i hope when i catch them live wayne will pick up an electric guitar for at least some of the tracks.

so check this out already! lips' site (http://www.flaminglips.com/).

i really need to pick up some of their more albums. all i have is yoshimi and transmissions from a satellite heart.

this sounds like a fun album already.

i listened to these songs a few more times overnight at work, and i'm really liking this album. the yeah yeah yeah song has been stuck in my head since i started listening to at war with the mystics yesterday. and soon enough i'll be able to go out and get a real copy of it, which is something to look forward to.

rumor is that sonic youth is going to be playing some shows with the flaming lips...

that'd be interesting. overall, sonic youth are pretty hit and miss though. maybe they'd be alright live.

dude, sonic youth is one of my favorite bands. i've yet to see them live though.

oddly enough, despite sonic youth being around for more than 20 years, i've still not heard more that a handful of their songs. you need to hook me up with something good, my friend.

i think the best place to start is Daydream Nation, it's their best album, it's somewhat early in their career, and it kinda encompasses easy to listen to songs with crazy experimental stuff.

pitchfork's reviews are usually pretty shitty.

at war with the mystics isn't my favourite lips album ever, but i'd say it's better than yoshimi was, and probably deserving of a better review. oh well.

the concert was fucking stellar, by the way! i'm not sure there are any other bands out there right now than could top the flaming lips' stage show. they opened with "race for the prize" and there was confetti and streamers being thrown about, and people off to the side of the stage started throwing a bunch really big balloons out into the room which the whole crowd was bouncing around until they all popped. and then they threw out a bunch more balloons during "she don't use jelly." and there were these really awesome strobe lights and fog machines and people dressed up as santa clauses and martians on the stage. the santas and martians each had a really bright flash light to shine all around whenever they felt like it.

their covers of war pigs and bohemian rhapsody went over really really well live. bohemian rhapsody fuckin' rocked.

i picked this up with tool (great combo to confuse a music store clerk btw). after i got ego tripping at the gates of hell ep last weekend at a flea market, i kinda got it in my mind that i had to pick this up.

i have to say, it was $11.97 well spent. i still need to give it a few more listens to let it sink in.
