what are you asking for?

at the top of my list is some basic stuff, like an oil change that i cannot afford and a couple shirts and jeans of my choosing.

otherwise...
tales of symphonia for gamecube
silent hill 3 & 4
Jump Drive
a bigger SD Card
America the Book
Clerks X DVD
Black Sabbath 70-78 Box Set

I don't expect to get all of that, but usually my parents start bugging me for a christmas list around late October so I give them the biggest list i can think of. this years list was 2.5 pages in Word. I usually get like 1-2 items from said list. heh.

Not really asking for much this year. A new computer case, and maybe a couple computer parts for video editing. Can't really ask for much since my parents are paying for my college.

Socks and underwear are a given.

so far, i've asked for some clothes (hooded sweaters for wintertime :)), and a douglas coupland book, or two, that i don't already have.

earlier today, since he's in town, my dad was asking me what i wanted, and i couldn't really think of much.. i told him i could use a new pedal or two for my guitar, but i'd have to pick them out and get them while he's here tomorrow, and that kind of sucks the fun out of christmas and christmas morning. but i do need at least a decent overdrive pedal..

also, i think i've been hinting at a couple beatles albums. i had a bunch of them many years ago, and i don't really know what happened to them, so i'm finally getting around to buying them back. i've really been wanting to listen to "help" and "revolver" lately.

but, really, i just want to have some holidays, look in my stocking and open a present or two on christmas morning, and just enjoy the free time with the family and friends.

there's so much shit i want (videogames and music mostly), so i'm just going to give my parents a big list and let them get as much or as little as they want. i don't have the time for a lotof videogames, so if i only got 2 i would be happy. plus half the shit i really want requires online purchases/searching to find it online.

games:
Tales of Symphonia
Metroid Prime 2
Half Life 2
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
Mario vs. Donkey Kong
FFI&II

CDs:
too many to list

Other:
a CD rack
hair ties

Stuff i'd love to include, but it would make it a pain for mom and pop:
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Radient Silvergun
Guardian Heroes
Don Cabellero - all their albums
Bozart - Steel Bridge
Brian Davis - Cheat codes

fine assface, I'll be serious about this all important topic of what I want for a holiday whose religion I dont believe in, and neither do many of you, and the holiday itself is based on an economic phenomena I dont particularly agree with, and also I've done my best to come up with content and such for the site, even offered to completely do it on my own (back when I had time.) but no one would give the thought the time of day (and then you complain about why there is no site, you lazy excuse for a human being) , but sure, I'll accept responsibility for the downfall of a forum that was failing before I got here...

I want:

The Art of Deception - Kevin D. Mitnick
A few hoodies and pairs of pants
cash

waaaaahhhh i'm different, pay attention to me.

you could have saved a lot of time there. and assuming i don't do anything when i run a weekly fucking website, 2 band sites, and contribute to several others is really fucking ignorant(not to mention i have offered to do this site too). and you will have to excuse me, but when i and others make simple posts meant to get people to post here and at least try to maintain a sense of community, a one word, unfunny, stupid response is not a way to encourage others. if you have such a big fucking problem with xmas and thanksgiving and so many others things, dont post in those threads, or just don't post here in general. i dont care, i'm just sick of this "woe is me" bullshit all the time.

ahh, why do you have to be so ghey! Lemmie get this straight, I post something mildly sort of "chuckle worthy" funny, and you get mad cuz I'm not being serious, then I post something serious, and you get mad cuz now I'm too serious, then I just try to shrug it off hoping you'd get the hint and drop it cuz to be honest we're both being doushe (sp?) bags, but you feel so superior that you feel the need to extend our litt'ole foray into the art of debate, much to the chagrin of everyone here. Drop it or dont, argue or dont, joke or dont, regardless of what you choose, you are still being a douche bag, and more of a douche bag than I am, I might add.

the problem, jep, is that you have no normality in your posts. take this thread for example. your first post is one word and only semi-funny. while i can ignore it, it is worthless. then your next post is so over the top.

all you fucking have to do in a topic about xmas lists is either a) post your xmas list, or b) don't.

i wasn't attacking your character. i was making fun of you with the whole suck thing, it wasn't a personal attack. but then you flipped out and told me how worthless i was at this 'failing' forum and how you do so much and you are different because you hate xmas and thanksgiving. my questions is....was it needed?

raub nailed my point exactly. you are all over the place. i obviously bothered you, and when i responded to you (albeit a bit angrily, though i think i have a point), you were just like "oh well no biggie!" it is a big deal. how you appear and how you come across is a contributing factor to whether people choose to post here or not. and honestly, i think you act really immature on a lot of subjects. on the other hand, you can be very mature in your postings, as seen in the election thread. i just want you to contribute a better you to this site, not the undesirable parts i mentioned. since we don't have a lot of people right now, we have to rely on who is here. so we need everyone to put a little more effort into making this a welcoming community than we would at say TTT circa 3 years ago.

that being said, i also want a pony.

I'm sorry, I don't mean this as a personal attack on you or the testtube, it just pains me to see such a diverse and interesting variety of people, who I'm SURE lead diverse and interesting lives, have stimulating thoughts, know stimulating people and have had fascinating experiences, could share life, light, love, and wisdom with all their friends they've known for... 6 YEARS (upwards to, for some)... slip into drudgery and conventionality. I know you. I know everybody here. You're amazing, full of life, light, love, and wisdom. Don't settle for being less.

And thanks... it's nice to be here to say something. How are you doing, buddy?

why do you require people to be boring?

raublekick
12-09-2004, 05:36 PM
you don't have to make a decent post and be boring. example of a decent, yet humorous xmas list (for jep):

Gay porn subsrcriptions
Dildos
New Bras (b cup please)
...
...
...

would you rather come here and see a topic like this that offers very little insight, thought, and coversation:

Post 1: What do you want for christmas?
Post 2: Crack
Post 2: Pussy
Post 3: (some decent list)
Post 4: Hookers

or would you rather have a reason to stick on the boards for more than 5 minutes at a time.

to me personally this forum doesn't mean a damned thing, i got here after this community was established. but you guys are always trying to make it come back and you always fall in the same traps. you alienate any new person that comes around (hey i almost gave up here because 90% of the posts were inside jokes from past incarnations of TTT). you make either shitty posts that aren't worth reading, or you make long boring posts that either no one wants to read or no one takes the time to respond to.

take it from an outsider, you guys for the most part have no consistency with posts. it's either bitching about posting too much worthless stuff, bitching about too much heavy conversations, or actually posting either of those cases. there is no middle ground here half the time, and that's why it doesn't work. want it to work? start giving a shit about posts.

merry christmas, i hope things get fixed up soon because you're all nice people.

Mr Biglesworth
12-09-2004, 05:56 PM
Lots of good points in those last two paragraphs. So why is this so?

a. Why don't we care about posts?
Life is full of ideas. When engaged in conversation, a topic or idea or experience inevitably comes to the table. Being a dynamic human being, just like the rest of us, I take the idea, chew on it, relate to it, spit something else out, and the conversation grows grows grows. And yet I feel there is no room for my life and my mind on this board. As such, posts hold much less significance, and i almost consistently don't "give a shit about posts". This apathy breeds lethargy and I just won't bother contributing something colorful because I know other people think the way I do and they will just turn the colors to grey. Why is this so?

Hmmm... I actually think that's the most important thing I can contribute right now.
Remember, nobody runs this board. Donnie, bless him, administrates it, but we all run it, we all create it. There's no theme, no common interest drawing us together except for the fact that we're supposed to want to be here.

So why do we want to be here?
I think if we capitalize on the answers to that question, we may be able to make some improvements.

For instance: I want to be here because you are my friends. Let's look at that. Being friends over the internet poses less pressures to create a good friendship. But yet we could all be good friends who actually do give a shit about eachother, are curious about eachothers lives, and are interested in what eachother thinks. If we all agree we are supposed to be friends, lets capitalize on that and try to do those things.

Why do you want to be here?

raublekick
12-09-2004, 06:03 PM
I post here because I get bored a lot or I like to put off dealing with real life by turning to the Internet. Like I said, I honestly don't care a whole lot if this board survives or not, but a lot of you guys are always talking about it, yet no one does anything. I think you are all nice people, but sometimes you get way to pretentious and uptight about things.

As I said, you either post complete nonsense garbage, or you make completely uptight super serious posts/arguments. There's usually no middle ground at all. This whole board is like one big bipolar mess.

<edit> I also think many of you post here because you always have, and that's why it's failing. You come back because it's habit, and you don't want to let go of something that used to be awesome. You guys could make it awesome again, you have the knowledge and the means. So many people say "well, i could do this or that if you guys want me to". Just fucking do soemthing, someone. It doesn't matter if it's really good or not, it'll be something, and a start. Improvements can be made later. Creeper and I run Good-Evil, and that's been pretty shitty lately, but we just stick with it until we really get some motivation and means to make it work better. We didn't start the site with a big outline of exactly how we wanted it, we just made a page and ran with it, and now it's something half decent. I thinkit would work for you guys too. Make a front page, come up with a bunch of ideas for things to do on it, and see what works. For us it was reviews, we tried news and art and all sorts of shit, but ultimately we found reviews worked best as the meat of our site.

i have absolutely no problem with Jeperel being who he is. but like raub said, there was a lack of effort put into what he said and i made fun of it.

i just want things to be back at a 'normal for this place' type thing, not boring and normal, just fun and interesting. but like Andrew said, i often visit here for 5 minutes, see nothing new and move on. At other boards, I may spend up to an hour looking through tons of posts. But those places dont have Neil, Brandon, Johnny, Donnie, Jesse, whatever you want to call Jep this week, and Sam and Amelia, etc. Maybe things won't ever be the same again, but me and raub made a site that is moderately successful, and goddammit, I want this place to be friendly and open to new people. But we have had any new people in a very long time.

Honestly, this place has meant more to me than most people could realize. I found Dexcussion in June of 1999, and started posting there in August. since then, almost 6 years of my life has gone into this. i would hate to see nothing come of you fantastic people.

i'm sorry to anyone if i have been bitchy lately, i'm just tired of this place going nowhere. I even considered making a TTT prototype at good-evil to see if people liked it, but i didnt, mainly because i haven't had time and sometimes i wonder if anyone is even looking forward to moving this place from its funk.

I'm not looking to push people away or make them change, I just want somewhere to go when I am bored and talk to some cool people that i would not meet in my everyday life.

Mr Biglesworth
12-09-2004, 08:24 PM
The road to hell is paved with good intentions, no?

Of course, of course... I'm not criticizing any one thing said or any one person, I'm criticizing the way people don't really put much of their... well.. selves into this forum. It's been a long time since I've seen someone shine in a post, and I don't mean that in a wishy washy way. I mean, we've all been growing, and there's times when we shine in our real lives (by applying ourselves intellectually, socially, emotionally, etc.) BECAUSE we apply ourselves. And yet there's no room here for our very own prides and joy of who and what we are: our intellect, our social selves, our feelings about the world and our lives. There's just a whole big blob of people working within old constrictions time and time again. Don't make me go elitist on all yo'all asses!

Ah, another Xmas... I don't have a list, there's nothing I can think of that I'd like...

I'll be buying dad a TV/VCR combo, or a DVD combo, for his truck as the last one took a spill and broke.

Mom...who the fuck knows, she never likes anything she gets even if it's something you just KNOW she'll find useful.

Brother...who knows, all he does is play games...kinda like me except I still run my life at the same time...he wants one of those GB SPs or whatever that new gameboy is...

Also going to be dropping whatever it costs to take a family emergency flight up to Green Bay once we get word on my grandfather's passing..2 days ago they said 2 days to a week left...kinda sucks just waiting for death.

But yeah, those are my plans for the holidays. Oh, and to get totally loaded.

Mr Biglesworth
12-10-2004, 01:26 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, Donnie, but didn't you tell us quite some time ago about your grandfather's critical condition? That's such a long time to be waiting.. my condolences to everyone.

My god... I have to be honest, I just started crying (just a little bit) right here at my desk in front of my math work. I was thinking of the only thing I could relate your situation of waiting for someone to die to. When I was 12-13 we were sure my grandmother was going to die. I'm very close with my grandma. We drove the 10 hours out to montreal and we were waiting there for some time, since we expected it to happen any day. She didn't die and it got to the point that we just had to leave, but we all expected her to die soon. My god, leaving her in her bed that day was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Christ... just thinking about it is heartwrenching. On the plus side, she's still alive, still cute as a button, but now living in my house in my sister's old bedroom.

Best to you and your family, Donnie.

Yeah, I'm doing better now, still up at my grandfather's...well...long story short, before he passed, my aunt and her husband bought the house and are now my 2 uncles who lived with my grandfather to care for him..landlords.

The viewing took place lastnight, and the actual service was this morning, was nice, apparently my grandfather was an incredible man who did incredible things, I've heard countless things about him that I never knew before, glad I made this trip.

Well, in between all the mourning we McKays have taken our time to do what we're best at, drinking and eating. Lastnight we were at the moose lodge most family up here are members of, and just drank...on the house because they said our fam's $ was no good. Tonight, we went to a place on the outskirts of town and chilled at the bar drinking... dad, my uncle, and myself, then ate the prime rib special, oof. Basically doing the things he enjoyed, we know he'd be happy to see us doing these things.

Well, I'm going to bed, I fly home friday, be home by that late evening, for anyone curious.
