raublekick
06-13-2005, 02:03 AM
Venture Bros is ok, there's something about it though that keeps me from really liking it... i'm completely unsure of what it is though.

Well I happen to love Home Movies. I recently borrowed the Season 1 DVD from a friend of mine and got to check out some storyboards and commentary and an interview with Brendon Small. Who is now my ultimate crush and I sent him some fanmail.

I think the genious in Home Movies is the simple humour, and the immaculate use of timing. The dialogue comes so naturally that it doesn't seem as contrived as every other show that has ever been on TV. Well, there are a few that have timing that is almost as good, but I think Home Movies is sort of in a league of it's own insofar as how casual and natural the (bizarre) dialogue comes out.

the dialoge is extremely simalar if not the same in all the "squiggle vision" cartoons theyve done although home movies doesnt squiggle anymore. i used to stay up every night watching dr katz i was obsest with it

I haven't been as exposed to Dr Katz, but I recall enjoying it when I saw it. Maybe I'll download an episode or two.

What is somewhat sad is that people who just see a few minutes of it, or sometimes even an entire episode, will dismiss it as stupid or not funny. But then they see more of it and then they start to enjoy it. I wonder how many people would be bigger fans if they were just exposed to it more.

aprox. 95832 people i'd say, but keep in mind there is no way to be sure.

Hahaha, 2nd time I've actually laughed here tonight.

I don't watch much Cartoon Network. I don't watch much TV at all for that matter.

But, I have seen and really really like Dr. Katz.

yeah exact same humor by the same guys even same voices. its about a 8 year old (i think) boy and his two friends who make movies at his house. with side plots at school with wacky charecters like the soccer coach and fenton a kid a t school who reminds me of jep.

Baboinga

testtubebaby
06-13-2005, 09:13 AM
holy shit... when did TTT wake up and get fucking active again? do we have to bitch and moan at each other to jump start this bitch? if so, i think we should take turns having wars whenever TTT flatlines...

that said,

- home movies is the shit... i've actually been using quotes from the series as the post titles for my english class (college classes have moved a lot of their work to the internet to save on paper and so, yea) since it's a lot cooler to have a post that's titled "golly jeepers... this sucks" than "robert olen butler" fpr the 53rd time.

- venture brothers sucks, and i will fight any man to the death who states otherwise. and by fight to the death i mean insult your mother.

- tom goes to the mayor is pretty funny, but it's no sealab 2021 circa 2001/2002.

raublekick

gaaaaaah sealab!!!!!! i love it!

"There's a black Debbie!?"

raditz
06-13-2005, 09:34 AM
heh, we're getting some varied opinions here

i love home movies
i think venture brothers is absolute comic genious
the few episodes of tom goes to the mayor i've seen, i've enjoyed

when it comes to sealab, i can't stand the show and i think it should be taken off the air

thecreeper
06-13-2005, 10:17 AM
sealab is already done, they ended it a few months ago.

i was never a huge fan of it, but the bizarro episode and the final episode were both classic

I fucking LOVED dr. katz. his seceratary was hawt... in that animated... squiggly line kinda way...

i recognized the voice of the soccor coach as the voice of dr katz's son ben

heX
06-13-2005, 11:32 PM
yeah and and mellisa's dad is the voice of dr katz. im not possitive but im pretty sure brendons step mom is the voice of katz's secratary.

and on science court wich i dont remember perfectly im pretty sure the male lawyer's voice was the voice of the coach and ben

watching HM now i love this dialogue:

soccer coach: this is awful, mellissa get in there and replace jean.
mellissa: coach my arm is broken, remember.
soccer coach: sigh* your arm is protected by a cast, its safer than it was before. now get in there.
mellissa: i dont think thats safe
soccer coach: fine fine go to the sub shop and get me a steak and cheese
mellissa: do you have any money
soccer coach: no
mellisa: neither do i
soccer coach: well go your locker and get some

Plain Old Jane

after i get the Aqua Teen seasons on DVD (and possibly Birdman), i should get the Home Movies set. the show has made me laugh, it just sucks that i never watched it till last year.

and colin, were i not a forum member and 20 hours away from you, i would totally fight you to the death over venture brothers.

Baboinga
06-22-2005, 05:30 AM
My friends quote Birdman constantly, but I've barely seen it at all.. Here and there when I actually had the show. I'd love to see more of it

sharkz
06-22-2005, 12:11 PM
yeah birdman is pretty funny.

johnny
06-22-2005, 01:21 PM
i once saw a show a while ago (probably like a year or two ago??) and there was a superhero who i think was a birdmanish sort of guy and i think he was a defence lawyer, or something like that? seemed pretty funny. was that the birdman show you folks are talking about?

as for home movies.. i've seen a few episodes here and there, and i never could get into it. ::shrug:: but i guess squigglyness was alright

raublekick
06-22-2005, 01:48 PM
