it appears my two best options are EA Sports' MVP Baseball 2005 and 2K Sports' MLB 2K5. i haven't played either of them, and i'm much too lazy to rent and compare, or even read proper reviews about them and compare, so i'm wondering if any of you have played either of these games? what are your opinions of them?

from my previous experience with EA vs the ESPN games (hockey games :)), the ESPN games blew the EA games out of the water. another bonus is that MLB 2K5 will probably be a bunch cheaper than MVP Baseball 2005, because.. well.. just because the ESPN sports games are cheaper, eh.

from what i heard, MVP is a bit better this year than ESPN, but they are both pretty good games of baseball (which is a rarity, usually it's either one or the other)

are you still drowning in the tears of the lock-out season?

my roommate's been playing NHL 2k5 and Hitz Pro trying to pretend it never happened. oh, but he knows. he knows.

it was a boring winter :( i played some nhl 2k5.

but now i have baseball to entertain me, and the cfl season is coming up soon, so i have things to watch while i drink beer again

but whenever hockey comes back, the leafs are winning it all, and it's gonna be great

Yeh what the hell is up with this. They haven't made a decent baseball game for a long time. What gives?
EA's is the best one that is out now though.

most every baseball game i play anymore just doesn't seem like much fun. Bases Loaded for the NES was the peak of baseball gaming, perhaps surpassed only by Bases Loaded 2 or 3.

rbi baseball, for the nes, was my favourite baseball game

closely followed by griffey for the snes. also, base wars was a novelty very briefly.

MVP is the best baseball game I've played. I played all of them last year and put more hours and more fun into MVP... it's a great game.

For a bit of news, baseball game news--

I'm flying to Vancouver, BC next Tuesday -> Thursday to test / preview MVP '06 College Baseball, EA's new baseball game coming out in March 2006. As some of you may know, EA lost the MLB license to Take2 (who make the 2K series) late last year... So this will be a College baseball game in March. It looks great so far, with a new batting technique (you swing wiht the right analog stick, it sounds very interesting so far), very deep create a stadium mode, and a lot of other new options (create a team being one as well).

So... EA is giving me an all expenses paid trip to go out to Vancouver for two days. If you have any questions about the game or anything that you'd like me to cover, please tell me ... and I will ask them for you. Pics to come!

---edit---
And what is this talk of no decent baseball games? MVP is an awesome game ... and with the exception of a few gripes (pitchin is too easy), it's the most fun baseball game I've ever played.

i ended up buying the take2 game, mlb 2k5 or whatever, shortly after i created this thread, and i thought it was a great baseball game. certainly not perfect, but they never are. unfortunately i can't compare it to ea's game, as i haven't played it, but i'm sure mvp baseball is quite good too.

if i still own an xbox and ever have the interest to play a baseball game again next year, it is very likely that i will purchase mlb 2k6. but the odds me being able to justify buying video games anymore are pretty slim..

why is that?

i find i get bored with video games so quickly these days that i don't see the point in buying them anymore. i still have my sp and emulators, so i can play all the classic old games whenever i feel like it. (i've been big on nba jam tournament edition and that nes kung fu game lately)

i know what you mean, half the time i can't validate spending ten bucks, let alone fifty.

and nba jam te is awesome. we should play some online on zsnes sometime.
